On the 14th day of February

While I was working at noon awaiting late lunch as usual, Manong Mac (our company guard) called my attention and signaled that I have a package. I saw this coming but a part of me didn't want to assume that someone would send me a bouquet in the office. But knowing my boyfriend, the man who barely disappoints and exceeds expectations consistently, I had the right to assume. It had a card on it.

Dear Marisa,

Will you be my Valentine?

Love,
Cedric

I said I would forgive that the person who arranged this misspelled my name. How can I say no anyway. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me on Valentine's day. It didn't really seem like a big deal to me the past couple of years, but I thought maybe this day could actually mean something.

We walked into the hotel's ball room and laughed unrestrained as soon as we were seated. The room was dimly lit, decorated with pink and red hearts all over and there was an acoustic band serenading the couples inside the room. So this was the "Love Dinner". It's like he took me to a prom I never had. It felt like an inside joke because I came from a convent school that used to be exclusive for girls. I never experienced prom. More than the flowers, wine, the scrumptious slab of steak, and romantic setup, it's his ability to let me experience things I wish I had. Things I would have never thought of myself.

You know what Ced, you always ask me why I chose you. I also never thought it was possible but the day I met you, reality started to beat my expectations.

Yes, you must be the reward for everything I did right in my life.
