After several weekends of choosing to navigate the concrete jungle that is Manila, I finally made it out of town again. Though it was only on the outskirts of the city, Subic's still a decent escape from the weekday hustle. Call it mainstream, but to me Subic's retro beauty will (figuratively) never fade.
We stayed at Mangrove Resort Hotel, a nifty 4-storey resort hotel along Baloy Long Beach Rd. Although not very budget-friendly (Php 6k/night for a 4-pax bedroom- pricey for off-season and hello, this isn't Bora), I was convinced it was worth it because apart from having the swimming pool right in front of your doorstep, there's this really promising view.
This morning I woke up to the sound of my brother wailing about his tummyache. It was shortly before 6am when he got back to sleep and I couldn't anymore so I just stepped outside to get some fresh air. This was my view. It was 23 degrees outside, almost sunrise, birds chirping in the background. Waking up to a view like this is my ultimate sedative, like most people obsessed with salt and sand.
Although their service is generally excellent, it broke my heart when I learned that despite their room rates, they do not serve free breakfast. This not-so-generous serving of beef tapa is worth Php 320. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're a solo traveler or going with friends on a tight budget. There are actually many more affordable ones within the vicinity. I'm so glad this was a family vacation because honestly, my job cannot sustain my thirst for adventure.
I seriously need to get back on track to tone out those flabs. :))
More about my weekend...
Before leaving for Subic, dad and I attended Bro. Bo Sanchez' stock market seminar. Ever since I worked in the insurance industry, I've been mulling over possible investments here and there. A chunk of my income now goes to insurance/financial investment and savings so I have to cut down on everything else. Embarrassing as it may be but most of my relatively expensive belongings were either bought by my parents or Ced. I've been pressing myself to build my future that I could barely pull a bill out of my wallet for my own lavish desires. Except for food. I can never be frugal when it comes to food.
And so being a newbie to the stock market, we attended the seminar and I'm just so happy that I learned a lot both technically and objectively. The seminar was worth every penny we spent. I'm excited to apply everything I've learned and pray to God that despite my overwhelming hatred for Economics back in college, having a long-term investment in the stock market will work out for me.
This wasn't expected but this was my closest encounter with Bro. Bo. Can I just say, I cannot handle the kilig I felt being in such close proximity!!
I've watched him preach about God as well as talk about business and financial literacy so many times. I've read some of his books, including his biography. To say he's the best in his field is an understatement now. For those who know me well, they can affirm that my attention span is shorter than that of a goldfish. I easily get bored listening to serious talks and my mind automatically goes out of kilter. But miraculously when it's Bo Sanchez, I grasp every single word without my mind drifting elsewhere. He's probably the most wisdom-filled person I've ever met. And for his intelligence, speaking skills and incredible humor, I admire him so much. I love my dad but if I were to choose another father, it would probably be Bro. Bo. Most of the time if you have a great father, you subconsciously look for your father's qualities in every guy you date. I think he'd be that kind of dad who raises the bar so high, you'd find it difficult to find anyone husband material.

Another amazing weekend that makes it so hard to go back to reality a.k.a. the confines of Ayala FGU.
It's definitely tough being a weekend warrior.
And another thing, the ber months are here.
