Celebrating 23 years

A mandatory extension of Valentine's transpired this weekend as we celebrated our parents' 23rd wedding anniversary. Can you imagine twenty-three years?! As the eldest among my siblings, I've witnessed their married life the longest and I derive from what I've seen in all those years that marriage is beautiful but it's not always smooth sailing. The dramatic episodes I've seen from my parents made me a little scared of lifelong commitment. But in all those years, I've also seen the kind of love that doesn't fade away with the memory of tears or things scattered on the floor. I would chuckle everytime I would catch them holding hands in the mall or see my dad trying to give my mom a hug while in bed, as if all the fights have been swept away by romantic little gestures. That's the difference when love is built on solid ground. Twenty three years of being occassionally frayed, yet it still remains standing.

A month ago, we decided to book a weekend stay at Marriott Hotel for their anniversary. It's probably the first time our family decided to do something non-spontaneous (and planned way early if I may add). The spontainety of our family stretches as far as travelling to Baguio for a 4-day trip during peak season without booking a hotel beforehand. I remember during that time, we spent hours trying to call people just so we could have a place to crash since almost all hotels were fully booked. We ended up staying at a haunted inn and let's just say those three nights weren't the most peaceful I've had.

So this time I'm grateful that we got to spend a well-planned weekend in a really beautiful hotel.

This view welcomed us upon entering the room. My phone camera could only capture a portion of the view, but beyond the pool, there's a panoramic view of Villamor Airbase's Golf Course and the great expanse of green scenery was absolutely breathtaking.

Of course the stay wouldn't be complete without going for a dip so instead of watching from our hotel room, I tested the waters myself. It was freezing and I couldn't stay in the water longer than fifteen minutes.

The thing I loved most about the pool area was that the restrooms were also made of five solid stars. It was warmly lit and very clean (considering my high standards of clean!) There's a jacuzzi, steam bath, very spacious shower rooms, and a powder area. If you didn't know it was a restroom, you would easily mistake it for a spa.

There are so many things about this hotel that deserves extra credit. One of many is their security - you couldn't use the elevators without a key card, so you're assured that only guests could enter. Another is their impeccable service. Their staff are very friendly, accommodating and professional. In all fairness, this weekend staycation was almost perfect. The time just wasn't enough to enjoy the amenities and everything was just super expensive (2 grand for a massage, whaddup!)

It was a great respite in the city. Honestly, an overnight stay wasn't enough. We could barely get ourselves out of bed and off those clingy sheets in the morning. I'm hoping to have more weekends like this!

Happy Anniversary again to our lovely parents! ❤️
