Love & Misadventure

Exactly a year ago

1. It was December of the year they said the world was going to end. He said our relationship's not worth it anymore. He said he's gonna think about it. What we have was frozen, but maybe it will thaw. Maybe we could rekindle that old flame when it does.
Two weeks after I got a text.
"I made up my mind."
followed by
"I'm sorry."
I was in the car with my family. Tears wriggled in my eyes. I didn't let them fall. Four years, gone. Just like that. Nevermind December 21st, my world has already ended.
At least at the moment it felt like it did.

“Do you remember the song that was playing the night we met? No, but I remember every song I have heard since you left.”

2. And then comes you, disguised as a knight. Why would you want to save someone who doesn't want to be saved?

“I don't know how you are so familiar to me—or why it feels less like I am getting to know you and more as though I am remembering who you are. How every smile, every whisper brings me closer to the impossible conclusion that I have known you before, I have loved you before—in another time, a different place—some other existence.”

A little ways down the road
3. First cut's the deepest as the song goes. I cried for months but it went away. Then first love never dies they say, and I beg to disagree as I sit here looking at the man that I selflessly love now. How different it was with the other. How it feels so right this time around.
I overheard you talking with my little brother.
"When Ate was with her ex-boyfriend, she cried almost everyday for years." he gossiped
"Really? Well she's happy now."
I smiled. Truth be told.

“Can I ask you something? Anything. Why is it every time we say good night, it feels like good-bye?”

Another proof that a lot of drastic changes could take place in a year. I'm so different now. In love, in life itself. Mature, happier, alive.

Thank you for your poems, Lang Leav.
