The Job Hunt

It's been 6 weeks since graduation...

During the earlier days, or should I say, at the height of my enthusiasm for working life, I mentioned being inspired by a famous line for people who aspire to have a dynamic career. "Choose a job you love, and you'll never have to work a day in your life."

After more than a month of relentless job interviews and exams, I garnered some confidence to tell that I passed some, while I also made a dimwit of myself out of the few. Metaphorically, the job hunt was much like unrequited love. You know who you want, what you want, but no one can guarantee those feelings would be reciprocated. Or... the cliché rotten apple analogy. It's a long way up, so you just pick up the ones on the ground. In other words, you settle. Because being a fresh grad in Manila is not that easy, not even when you're from a recognized school, unless you are cum laude or top 10% of the graduating class as those job postings scream. That other option is always open though... you settle. I have received sales, bank teller, and even call center agent position offers in the past few weeks, and although I have great respect for people who are in this craft, it's just not mine to take. I haven't actually settled yet, but we never know...

A friend told me it's really tough getting a job during the last quarter of the year since this is what they call "freeze hiring" season. I hope for the best in 2013. Nothing but baking keeps me sane today (well, maybe my JP too, sometimes... but you know how relationships roll). I just miss the feeling of having something to do. Of actually doing something.
