On funding creative minds

It makes me wonder how I've grown so skeptical about charity. When I was a child up until high school, it made feel good whenever I hand a penny to beggars I see on the streets. There was actually that pang of guilt when I pass them by without giving anything. As I was growing up, it all felt so senseless. I began to loathe the idea of feeding programs and directly donating money to the "poor". Despite DLSU's attempts to make us charitable Lasallians, I still come across the thought that my current way of thinking is due to their persistence of molding us into business-minded people. We really have been taught all the way that we aspire to be in this industry because we want to gain money. But... why would you want to give away money that you worked so hard for without receiving anything in return? (disregarding the beliefs of good karma and all) I am certainly not drawing lines on morality, but those people who receive them only had to ask, leaving the spirit of labor absent. I solely believe that what you get must be the fruits of your own labor (and begging doesn't count). Another thing is the influence of media. Don't you just hate those people you see on TV blaming the government on why they are poor? Yes, our government may be way corrupt, but that doesn't mean you don't have to work hard for your personal desires. I've witnessed several people demonstrate rags to riches and I couldn't be any more proud and humbled.

I don't have much to give but when I do give, it's because I know it would be put to use. I have gotten curious about the lifestyles of the rich and how they give away money knowing it's all gonna go where their best interests are, at the same time they are helping people "earn" and not just "receive". I have gone to venture fund-raising campaigns and encountered this website named Indiegogo. As it says, it's the world's funding platform to fund yourself. This, I actually liked. It's not only a place for charity. Some projects are good and it's nice that people are helping others who have these great creative minds, but no money to execute their ideas.

The categories are wide in range, and I found out that a friend knows someone who has a good project posted here. He showed it to me just recently. It's a start-up project by In preview Inc. It'll give people the opportunity to watch movies online for a cheaper cost (for those who don't have time for theaters). Probably at the same time it goes out in cinemas depending on the number of ticket pledges. The funds will be used to buy rights so as to avoid copyright infringement. I like the idea so I think I'll be giving a few bucks through Paypal.

If you also want to help, here's the link: InPreview
